Frequently asked questions about women's alpaca socks
Are alpaca socks for women warm?
If you are looking for the warmest socks, you should go for thick alpaca wool socks or thermal socks. Alpaca wool is the warmest wool in the world and is ideal for socks against cold feet. If you are looking for socks for spring and summer, we recommend thin alpaca socks. Thanks to the thermal properties of the wool, they adapt to the temperature, for a comfortable foot climate without freezing or sweating.
Can alpaca wool socks be scratchy?
Unlike merino or cashmere, there is no such thing as just one type of alpaca wool. Instead, there are five different types of soft alpaca wool. In the lower quality grades of alpaca, fine and superfine, alpaca wool can be scratchy. That's why you should always go for the highest quality baby alpaca when it comes to socks; it's so soft and comfortable that it's even suitable for people who are allergic to wool.
Are alpaca or merino socks better for women?
Whether merino or alpaca, both types of wool are ideal for comfortable socks and are very similar in their characteristics. While alpaca wool is warmer, merino is more breathable and therefore popular for outdoor textiles. Why choose between merino or alpaca socks when you can combine the precious fibers? Our thin alpaca socks and wool socks are a mixture of alpaca and merino and offer you the best of both worlds.
Are there quality differences in alpaca socks?
Alpaca socks that only contain 5 - 40% alpaca wool hardly offer you the warming characteristics of the precious fiber from South America. We recommend that you go for at least 40% alpaca wool and prefer blends with nylon and elastane, as they are more durable and robust than alpaca socks made from 100% baby alpaca.
Are alpaca socks suitable for women who suffer from sweaty feet?
If you struggle with sweaty feet, we can recommend thin alpaca socks. The wool has antibacterial properties, is breathable and regulates heat. Socks for sweaty feet should also be easy to care for, as they need to be washed more often.
Are alpaca socks difficult to care for?
Alpaca socks are easy to care for. Since they air out well in the fresh air, you can wash them less often. Women's alpaca socks are suitable for washing in the wool program of the washing machine or by hand.
Alpaca socks offer women maximum comfort
Comfort and convenience are particularly important in socks, as we often spend the entire day in our socks and closed shoes. What makes alpaca socks for women so special is their warmth, softness and functionality. Very warm socks made of thick alpaca wool promise never to have cold feet again, while thin alpaca socks are ideal for the warmer seasons. You should always go for breathable socks, otherwise foot sweat will not be wicked away and bad smells will build up.
The special thing about alpaca wool is the hollow spaces in its fibers, which ensure an ideal foot climate. In cold weather, they store heat and at higher temperatures, they have a cooling effect and ensure that your feet do not overheat. To ensure this effect, you should always choose the right thickness of women's alpaca socks: wool socks for winter and thin socks for the transitional period.
Natural, soft socks are usually in earth tones and are a bit boring for us. With us you will find colorful socks that are suitable for all occasions. Either plain, with an alpaca pattern or a winter motif, alpaca socks for women bring variety and a level of comfort that your feet have never experienced before.
Characteristics
This is what makes alpaca socks for women special
Alpaca wool has characteristics that make it ideal for making comfortable and skin-friendly socks for women.
Warm & breathable
Thick alpaca socks promise you'll never have cold feet in winter again. Alpaca wool is seven times warmer than sheep's wool and, as already mentioned, is the warmest wool in the world. To prevent your feet from sweating, alpaca wool offers breathable characteristics and wicks away moisture. Thin alpaca socks are less warm and adapt to the outside temperature so that your feet neither freeze nor sweat.
Maximum comfort
When it comes to socks, women should only use the softest baby alpaca wool, which is guaranteed to be scratch-free. Alpaca wool is also suitable for allergy sufferers, as it naturally contains hardly any lanolin (wool fat). If you prefer chemical-free socks, we recommend women's alpaca socks in the colors cream, black and brown. These are the natural colors of the alpacas and these wool colors are processed into socks without any chemical dyes.
Functionality
To avoid holes in socks, you should use robust materials. Alpaca fibers are soft, but at the same time tear-resistant and hard-wearing, making them suitable for sporty socks such as hiking or trekking socks. Many women also find it important that socks do not pill, as this can quickly make them look inferior. Pills often occur with inferior quality or synthetic fibers. Alpaca socks can be washed in the wool program of the washing machine or by hand. Their antibacterial properties mean you can wash them less often.
Sustainable & environmentally friendly
Alpaca wool is a natural fiber clothing that is biodegradable. Alpacas and llamas are an indispensable part of the landscape in Peru. With their feeding habits they promote grass growth and represent an important source of income for the rural population. Alpaca wool is part of the sustainable slow fashion segment, which places value on fair working conditions, animal welfare, environmental protection and long-lasting quality.
